Quest for bike...
I really thought that carbon was just a bunch of hype, but carbon bikes are rather amazing creations. The other day I test rode a couple of production carbon bikes. I rode a Cannondale Super Six down the block, up a hill and back to the shop. Not a long ride, but enough to get the general feel of the thing. Then I took out a Specialized Roubaix Pro for a longer ride including a nice climb and some bumpy bike path. Very nice bike. I found both bikes to be both laterally stiff and vertically compliant (read that in a magazine, whatever the hell it means). But honestly, they both were smooth as glass, no chatter, comfortable and responsive. I would buy them both if I had a big bag of money. I also rode a Wilier Izoard, which was way too small for me, but was still sweet as honey and as pretty as a podium girl. My next avenue is to head over to the primo LBS where they only sell "custom custom" and see what I can get. If I want to be dazzled, I think I may have to pay...

As a Roubaix Pro owner, I'm all about laterally stiff and vertically compliant!
